Specialized Care for Young People
Orthopedic challenges can stem from many causes, including overuse, injury and genetics. From common setbacks, like a broken bone, to more complex orthopedic conditions, we use the latest technology and treatments to provide care, including minimally invasive surgical techniques which typically help reduce discomfort and recovery time. We look at the whole child to assess how an orthopedic condition affects their overall health and wellness.
Finding an effective approach to care that’s right for each individual is always our priority. When clinical expertise is needed, our fellowship-trained Wellstar specialists meet kids right at their level to help them begin moving well again.

Treatments
Our team cares for any injury to the musculoskeletal system. Not only do we provide casting and splinting by skilled professionals, we provide a full range of non-surgical and surgical treatment solutions for all pediatric orthopedic problems.
Non-surgical treatments
Not every injury requires surgery, some minor, and sometimes major, orthopedic conditions can be treated in-office using,
- Casting and splints, for sprains, fractures and broken bones.
- Injections and aspirations, for relief from pain and inflammation.
- Prescriptions, for bracing, orthotics and medications.
- Physical therapy, to regain strength, flexibility and function.
Surgical treatments
When surgery is recommended, Children’s Hospital of Georgia has the only pediatric surgical program in the area. Our pediatric orthopedic surgeons, supported by pediatric anesthesiologists and pediatric certified nurses, provide care to your child in a dedicated operating room designed for treating children. We perform:
- Traditional surgery: For complex or complicated procedures where it’s important for a surgeon to see the extent of the injury they are repairing.
- Pediatric Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS): Using arthroscopic and laparoscopic techniques for less pain and faster recovery.
- Advanced fixation techniques: For broken bones.
Specialized care
We also see patients with more serious conditions of the musculoskeletal system. Over time, we get to know these children like family as we prepare for long-term treatment options.
- Cancer care: We have a dedicated pediatric oncologist who provides advanced care for musculoskeletal cancer and other cancer-related bone problems.
- Congenital and developmental musculoskeletal conditions: We offer surgical and nonsurgical treatments for pediatric patients with conditions of the spine, hip, knee, leg and foot.
Our child life specialists are available to talk to your child and explain their condition, to help them understand and cope with treatment and care.
